Retail packaging artwork production for LEGO Toys R Us promotional packs, including Ninjago, Batman and Nexo Knights ranges for the US market.
LEGO required a series of Toys “R” Us exclusive packaging variants for the US market across several major product ranges, including LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Batman and LEGO Nexo Knights. Working within LEGO’s global brand standards, retailer-specific requirements and US packaging regulations, I produced production-ready packaging artwork for retail launch.

US Retail Packaging Artwork
2016
The challenge
The project involved adapting existing LEGO packaging for Toys “R” Us exclusive retail promotions in the United States. While the core artwork and branding assets already existed, each pack required careful restructuring to accommodate retailer branding, legal requirements and country-specific packaging regulations without compromising the integrity of the LEGO brand.
Working across multiple licensed product ranges including LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Batman and LEGO Nexo Knights, the challenge was to integrate Toys “R” Us promotional branding while preserving the visibility and hierarchy of the original product artwork.
Each packaging variant required review and approval from multiple stakeholders including LEGO brand teams, intellectual property owners, legal departments and regional compliance teams. All artwork had to comply with US safety regulations and packaging standards before production.

Production process
Planning
Existing packaging assets and production files were reviewed to identify the required retailer branding, legal content and safety information. Packaging specifications, cutter guides and print requirements were established before artwork production began.
Production
Packaging artwork was rebuilt and resized using supplied master assets and Photoshop production files. Retailer branding was incorporated while maintaining LEGO’s strict brand hierarchy and ensuring that licensed product branding remained prominent.
Cutter guides, spot colours, varnish specifications and overprint settings were prepared for each packaging format. Multiple versions were produced to satisfy legal reviews, intellectual property approvals and regional compliance requirements.
Delivery
Final artwork was supplied as press-ready print specification PDFs for manufacture. Production files were fully preflighted and prepared to meet LEGO’s packaging standards and the printer’s technical requirements.
The result
A complete suite of Toys “R” Us exclusive packaging artwork was successfully produced for launch across the US market.
The project delivered retailer-specific packaging for multiple LEGO product lines while maintaining global brand consistency, satisfying legal and compliance requirements and meeting demanding production schedules.
